Fire Product Record
A digital product record is a structure, not a document
Whatever a future scheme asks for, it will ask about the same things: what the product is, what it claims, what supports the claim, and what the claim does not cover. That is the record. The format is a rendering of it.
Four layers
Identity, claims, evidence, scope. Every proposal published in the UK or the EU needs those four layers, whatever it calls them. Build them around your product structure rather than around a speculative schema, and the export format becomes a detail.
- Identity — what it is, which version, which identifiers, who makes it and where
- Claims — characteristic, value, classification, the standard it is expressed against
- Evidence — what supports each claim, issued by whom, valid until when
- Scope — the configuration and limitations each claim and each piece of evidence covers
Machine-readable is a consequence, not a goal
Once the record is structured, a JSON export, a printable evidence pack, a web page and a data feed are all views of the same content. Every public record here has a JSON representation at a predictable URL, versioned with an explicit schema tag, so an integration can read it without scraping.
That JSON is our schema. It is not an official standard, and we do not claim it is one. No settled UK schema for construction-product data exists to conform to.
Immutability and hashing
A published record is a snapshot, not a live view. It is hashed in canonical form, so the same content always produces the same hash and any difference is detectable. Publishing again creates the next publication and supersedes the previous one; nothing is overwritten.
This is the property that makes a public record worth anything to the person reading it. Without it, "the record says X" only means "the record says X today".
Where the regulation actually is
The EU has legislated for a construction product passport under Regulation (EU) 2024/3110. Great Britain has not legislated for an equivalent; the reform proposals published for consultation touch on product information without creating a passport requirement. Our tracker records each of those statements with a status and a primary source.
What this product does not do
Fire Product Record helps manufacturers organise product information, configurations, performance claims and supporting evidence. It does not determine whether a product complies with applicable construction-product law or replace technical, conformity-assessment or legal judgement. Manufacturers remain responsible for the accuracy and approval of published product information.
Bring one product family under control first
Start with the family you get asked about most. One version, its configurations, its claims and the evidence behind them.
